Grub and Gab

For your blog this weekend, I want you to bring one thing to eat and invite one person to our virtual Thanksgiving table. The dish should be something you love and or something that is a tradition in your family or a dish that maybe you are known for. The person can be living or dead, but you should share why you think that person would be a great guest.

  1. If I could invite one person to my Thanksgiving meal it would be my grandmother, Barbara Moscato-Brown, and we would eat pecan pie. My grandmother passed away before I was born and I have only heard hundreds of wonderful stories about her. I would ask her about some of the most memorable stories I've been told from my aunts and uncles to see what she has to say about them. Also, her father immigrated to the United States from Italy in the early 1900s, and I would love to hear her personal stories of the experiences she had growing up. We would eat pecan pie because my mom has told me before that she loved that pie flavor. I don't think I have ever eaten a piece of pecan pie so it would be fitting to have a piece for the first time with someone that loved it.

  2. My thanksgiving is always filled with family, granted not every person is a treat to talk to or to see. There is one person and tradition in my family that I love so much. My grandmother Beverly Farley and her homemade stuffing that always causes a fight between me and my elder sister. These fights are just little banters because of who should get to take home the extra stuffing if there is any that is. My grandma who I sometimes just call gamma, is so very sweet and kind but knows when to be bull headed and tough. She can always bring a smile to my face or make me feel welcomed and loved as soon as I see her anywhere. I love her ever so dearly and I cannot wait to be with her and the rest of my family this thanksgiving to eat the stuffing and just catch up on things in everyone's lives.

  3. My favorite holiday since I was little has always been Thanksgiving. I love everything about this holiday. I love the smells, the naps following dinner, and all the laughs and smiles shared with my family. What I would bring to our virtual Thanksgiving would most definitely be my mom's famous homemade pumpkin roll. She makes it every single year and has never broken a roll... until this year. Nevertheless, her pumpkin roll has always been the hit dessert at my family's Thanksgiving. I would also invite Saint Pope John Paul II to this Thanksgiving meal. After reading and further researching about him, I have grown a deep admiration for Saint Pope John Paul II. He would lead our Thanksgiving prayer and would insist on going last through the line for food. I think that we would all enjoy listening to his life lessons and jokes at the table. He would be such a breathe of fresh air during this holiday meal. I would also love to ask him some of my deepest theological questions over some pumpkin roll. This moment would my favorite part of the night. Not only because of the dessert, but because he is one of my biggest role models in life and I would love to have a one on one chat with him. Finally, after everyone finished eating he would give us a blessing as we all head out the door for safe travels.

  4. Ever since I was a little girl, my Uncle Tud and I have shared a love for almost any kind of desert. When I was first introduced to him, our first desert we both indulged in was peanut butter pie. Above all else, anything with peanut butter is a favorite of mine. I sometimes will even eat spoonfuls of it out of the jar for a snack. My uncle Tud and I formed an unbreakable bond that day while eating the peanut butter pie. My Aunt Grace usually makes it for us, and it has become a tradition for us to eat it. If I had to bring one desert and person, it'd be my Uncle Tud and our peanut butter pie. I speak very truthfully when I say I don't know I single person that doesn't absolutely adore Jimmy Doran. He's the most friendly and compassionate person in the world. He would be a great guest because he has a wide range of information about many different subjects. Although he doesn't fully understand the concept of the social medias that most teenagers are absorbed in, he tires his best to fit in and become accustomed to it. He could engage in any kind of conversation with any kind of person. My Uncle Tud would be a great gues for our Thanksgiving for these reasons and many more.

  5. Thanksgiving tends to be brushed over due to the following popular holiday, Christmas. My family on the one side is so large that one of the only times the family gets to see everyone is at our traditional Christmas party at the Legion. So Thanksgiving for me is pretty small. We have dinner at my grandparents house, my mom's parents. There we have my grandpa, grandma, my very young uncle who lives with them, my mom, dad, my sister Lauren, and myself. I would like to invite Fr. Ananias. He was a very close family friend who we have not seen since I was very young. He would come to our family parties, and even played kickball with my sister and her friends. It would be so wonderful to have thanksgiving with him and catch up, along with listening to his knowledge of the faith. Now that I have a new profound love for the faith, I would appreciate it to a high degree. Not only would we appreciate his presence, but there is no doubt that he would enjoy our famous "Grandma's Wilted Lettuce" salad which was concocted by my great grandma's secret recipe. Grandma Dorthy's salad was filled with onions, bacon, raddish, and of course the lettuce that is drizzled with her famous dressing. I've never met her, but by her tasting her recipes, I know she was a talented, crafted woman.

  6. If I could bring one person to my dinner table, it would be my brother Adam who is in Arizona right now. He and some other soldier's names were put into a hat for an unannounced leave to Kuwait in 9 days for a few months, and so it would be pretty nice to see him again just in case he were to get picked. He would be a nice guest because boy does he have stories about war, such as the one at the Gulf of Mexico. Also at our dinner table, we would have some chocolate pie. Yes that is a thing. Chocolate pie is so good that I pretty much ate 3/4 of the pie in a few days, and I'm kinda sure that isn't exactly a healthy thing to do.

    1. I can relate to this a lot! Mike may also be deploying to Kuwait in February and we are unsure for how long! I can't imagine my whole family not being together on Thanksgiving! PS I like your food choice

  7. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks with your entire family. Surrounded by laughter and plenty of food on the table. It is a time to celebrate all the things that you have and all the people you can share those things with. Every Sunday of the entire year my family gathers at my aunts house for spaghetti and meatballs. There is always salad, bread and butter, and dessert to go eh the main meal. On special occasions such as Christmas and Thanksgiving my aunt makes homemade macaroni instead of cooking from the box. They are DELICIOUS! This thanksgiving if I had to choice one dish that I could eat it would definitely be the homemade macaronis. Thanksgiving is supposed to be filled with laughter and family stories that get everyone to smile. If I could only eat with one person on thanksgiving it would be my Uncle Johnny MacDonald. He passed away when I was about 5 years old but I still remember the way he would joke with everyone. He would be the best guest to have at my dinner because he knew EVERYONE and he could tell stories for hours. I remember when I was at his house for a party one evening and one of my cousins hit me in the forehead with a baseball. I couldn't stop crying until he gave me a "bear hug", as he called it. So why would he be the best guest to have? He would be the best guest to have at thanksgiving because he knows how to make people laugh and tell a great story but he also has a soft side that very few people could get out of him. I'm glad I could be one of those people. Happy thanksgiving πŸ˜†πŸ

  8. Thanksgiving is a holiday that comes and goes and seems to be the same thing every year. Family comes over, raids your kitchen in a loving manner, we play cards, and then everyone goes home. Everyone gets together, except when we lose people. If I could have one person at a Thanksgiving dinner with my family, it'd be my uncle. He tragically passed away at 19, and he was my closest friend. My family hasn't truly been the same for years since we lost him. I know it would be a real gift for his mother and siblings or be able to see him one more time and express how thankful they were for him. His daughter would be able to meet him for the first time, and I'd be able to see my friend again. The food would be all up to him, we would dedicate every moment to him and welcoming him back.

  9. Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday. It reminds me of times when I was younger and we used to go to my Aunt Clarice's every Sunday. Dinners brought my family together, but the weekly ones ended a few years ago, so the holidays, especially Thanksgiving, give me a nostalgic feeling. I like the feeling of togetherness I get when I sit down with the people I love most. I would bring cottage cheese to the dinner because it was something we ate a lot at Aunt Clarice's. Everyone gets a confused look when I say that. They think cottage cheese is so random, and they're right. That's what makes it special. I have no idea how it became a tradition, but for as long as I can remember Maggie and I would take turns cutting chives from the plant in the back yard each Sunday for Aunt Clarice to cut up and put in the cottage cheese. Everyone loved it and complimented us on the quality of chives we picked (as if it mattered). Because of this, I don't wish for any fictional or famous person to be at my table. I wish for my (extended) family to be at my table every year. Ever since the weekly dinners ended, many of us have grown apart. Thanksgiving brings most of us together, but some choose to be separated because of personal issues with someone else in the family. Therefore, I would invite all of my family to my thanksgiving dinner, especially those who have stopped coming recently.

  10. If I could choose one person to share another Thanksgiving meal with, it would be my grandma Pat. She passed away this September and I never thought at this time last year, it would be the last thanksgiving meal I would have with her. I never really got to see her that often other than at family events so to be able to see her and spend time with her one more time would be amazing. This year I was extremely thankful for my family, more than I had been before because you never know what you have until it's gone. My grandma was an amazing person with a heart of gold and that is two of the the many reasons I would want another meal with her. At the meal we would have a pumpkin roll because that was always her favorite and she also loved to occasionally make her herself.
