  1. I, one hundred percent, believe in miracles. I do not believe miracles are a violation of natural law. I am also a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Miracles happen because God wills them to happen. Miracles can be anything from someone recovering from a serious injury the doctors said they weren't supposed to recover from or answered prayers that someone turned their life around after something like a serious drug addiction. Both of these situations are people who weren't supposed to live and did. They day my family found out about my cousin's accident while he was stationed in Italy, was one I will never forget. The Navy had called my aunt and tried to explain the best they could what they had know had happened. I've never seen many of my family members like they were on that day. The Coldplay song "Miracles" has a line that describes how I felt that day, "Send your storm and your lighting to strike between the eyes." Nothing made sense to me and a million emotions rushed through me at once." Any news we received after that seemed so dark and not hopeful. We prayed for a miracle everyday. When my cousin finally was brought back to the United States, his recover seemed to show such positive progress. He began to recover and our miracle became a reality. Experiences like this have given me a strong belief that miracles are real. My cousin was supposed to live and continue to impact lives in his life. The lessons my family and I learned through that journey were able to bring us closer together and made us better people in the end. Miracles are not violating any natural law. I believe miracles happen to change the people involved to be better people and to teach them a lesson they will carry on for the rest of their lives. Once again, i believe in miracles and that everything happens for a reason, more than ever. In the words of Hot Chocolate, "I believe in miracles, since you came along."

    2. I totally agree with your statement about the darkness of news and the quick ability family can conjugate at that time. Everything does happen for a reason no matter the severity. Nicely said blog!

  2. I believe in miracles. However, I don't see them as a supernatural occurrences created by a supreme being. Miracles to me are small actions that show the decency and goodness of humanity in a time where the world is dominated by terrorism, hate, and fear. It gives me faith in the world that there are still great people in this world. I have moments where I don't believe that there's any goodness left, but then I see stories come up in my Facebook feed or on TV that show me that good people are still out there. A lot of these people are, undoubtedly, musicians. Musicians do so much for humanity, and it's often overshadowed by the school shootings, ISIS attacks, misogyny, and racism. It's depressing to think what we've become. People wonder why I idolize musicians, it's because of the goodness that stems from so many of them. We will always have musicians that aren't good people, such as Kid Rock, Fred Durst, and Axl Rose. However, their actions are overshadowed by the goodness of other musicians. That, in my opinion, is a true miracle. People use their fame and glory to help people who don't have anything at all. Nobody tells them they have to, they just do it out of the goodness of their hearts. In their song "Miracles," Coldplay frontman Chris Martin sings "when I look in your eyes, I forget about all that hurts." That's what these actions do for me. I see these people do these generous and amazing things, and it distracts me from the hate our world has been consumed by. These musicians are changing the world by being he nicest people they can. The best example of one of these people is Foo Figthers singer/Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Grohl is often called the nicest guy in rock, and rightfully so. He, himself, is a miracle in my opinion. When Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain had committed suicide, Grohl didn't give up. He was depressed, but it never kept him from doing what he loved. It's people like this that show miracles truly do exist. They exist out of the goodness of people.

    1. Nick, I like how you provided plenty of examples in your argument. It certainly showed that you knew what you were talking about. Good Job!

    2. Nick, your blog this week I feel had a different feel to it. Your incorporation of different singers and bands to the subject added significance to the idea of the hatred and provided distractions that are in the world. Maybe it's because this time you actually agree with the topic and everyone thus far, but otherwise it was a good blog!

    3. When I read the blog assignment for this week I could NOT await to see what you had to say. However, I can not complain. I agree that miracles are small occurrences that happen everyday to show goodness in mankind. You had a strong argument and good examples to back them up. Great job

    4. Yay, Nick! We agree about something! Miracles are, in fact, the little things (that God plays a part in) Good job!

  3. I define the word "Miracles" as: An extraordinary event caused by the power of God, and I define the word "Natural Laws" as: Observable laws relating to natural phenomena. I believe in miracles. They cannot be in violation of natural laws, because it is not possible. Natural Laws "Keep holding this world together." A problem arises every now and again though because of the fact that Natural laws were not given to us, but rather were explained through human evaluation of natural phenomena, meaning we do not know the Laws exactly to the point. So, there are exceptions to these laws sometimes to compensate for new scientific discoveries, such as the sub-atomic level. It is logically possible for miracles to occur as long as there is a Free Agent involved whether that be through Jesus or anyone else, since a door won't open by itself. Take my driving experience to school the other day for example. When I was driving, I could not see anything out of my windshield, and my window wipers were frozen. The only thing I had as a reference point to my position was the oncoming headlights of the car in front of me. If I did not act, then God's help would not have happen. I had to hold on to the steering wheel and use the breaks for God's blessing to work. In other words, I had to open the door to let God in

  4. Miracles, we hear of them almost everyday. I don't necessarily believe in miracles as much as the next person does. What is a miracle though? When you look up the definition of miracles it says that it is an occurrence that cannot be explained by science or natural laws but is often seen as related to a bigger supernatural power such as a religious leader or a god. I myself have seen movies that deal with miracles of a little girl or child that is sufferer grandmother from a terminal illness that is killing them and by the end of the movie they are cured. Often I see these on the hallmark channel because my mother is obsessed with the Christmas movies made by them. In my life however, I cannot go as to say that I have encountered a miracle. I often have close to death encounters with cars. I really can't count the amount of times I have almost been hit by a car and pulled last minute by my hood back onto the sidewalk by a friend. I wouldn't say these are miracles just a friend helping out another friend so that they don't die. As we all know miracles happen often and in Jefferson Starships song titled "Miracle" there is a line that says "Few ever find in a lifetime" and I think that speaks volumes towards the subject at hand because miracles are fleeting and few. One minute it's there and the next second it's gone.

  5. I'm sure everyone has heard the saying, "Miracles happen every day," and I most definitely believe in this saying. When I think of miracles I do not think of magicians or magic, but rather I always think of Jesus and the miracles he performed and still performs today. When I started to think about this weeks blog, I decided that I needed to educate myself more in the field of miracles, but I wanted a Catholic perspective about this topic. I found an article on catholiceducation.org that defined some miracles as "Occurrences in nature but are also truly supernatural because the normal powers of nature have been surpassed." With this said, I do believe that some miracles are in violation of natural laws. An example of those miracles can be found in John 9: 6-7 which explains the miracle of the blind man, "Jesus spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva, and smeared the clay on his eyes, and said to him, “Go wash in the Pool of Siloam”. So he went and washed, and came back able to see." This miracle is without a doubt supernatural. Jesus was able to defy the odds of nature and give sight to a blind man. These type of miracles a rare, but they still occur. The miracle at Fatima which occurred in 1917 is also a miracle that also countered nature. I find it truly amazing that there are people on this earth that where alive during the time of this supernatural miracle.

Miracles also occur in every day life. A miracle that happens every second of every day is the miracle of life. Think about it. YOU are a miracle. I find it amazing that out of the millions of people in this world your parents came together, which is a miracle its self, and out of the thousands of eggs and sperms, one of each came together to create YOU. This may be a weird or uncomfortable topic to blog about, but I truly believe this is a miracle. This quote from the song "Miracles" by Newsboys envelops this miracle of life,
    "There's something that's missing
    If we can't recognize
    That our own existence
Is the miracle before our eyes."
YOU are truly a miracle and miracles most definitely occur every single day.

  7. Miracles. They are everywhere and not just in the Bible. The miracles Christ Jesus performed were the actions of the true savior the world, meaning your average Joe of society would not be successful in cleansing a leper, or turning water into wine, or walking on water, or healing of the servants ear during arrest. Saying that doctors of certain professions could not heal a sick individual, or stitching a body part back onto the body is irrelevant to miracles, but what is relevant is Jesus being the individual with no professional background, no are of study, or even the direct intention to do this for a living. This, this is the beauty of miracles back in the biblical times. Jesus is who I think of when I hear the word miracles and it's wonderful beauty. I, myself, was apart of a living miracle, and once I listened to "Miracles" by Newsboy, I immediately thought of this moment in my life. For the song says, "There's something that's missing if we can't recognize that our own existence is the miracle before our eyes." From this, the miracle of our own existence and the people that are put into our lives is one of the simplest miracles there are. Without extending into deep detail of my miraculous involvement in a loved ones life, my uncle and I shared a special connection. When I was in third grade, my uncle was on the verge of dying, the doctor couldn't do much more to help him. I sent him a blessed mother medal and prayer cards to him in the hospital and with a few days that past, we got a call that his chances of living had increased severely and he could leave the hospital in a few days. I was astonished by the news and I got to thinking. His health was rapidly declining and hospital care could not afford him any more stability. And once he received the medal, his health was "reborn" and given this new breath to life. The spiritual healing and miraculous change of pace to his life is what the family considers a miracle. The medical professionals pronounced a few weeks left for his pumping heart, but the medal of faith and holiness granted him 8 blessed years of life from that point. Speculations could be made about the deep details, but in all reality, the educated confirmed he had 7-14 days left in his fuel tank, but God had granted him years more. There are many miracles in a lifetime that are spectacular to society as a whole, and individually. From this, I do not acknowledge that miracles are in violation of the natural law. It does not fall under the moral conduct of changing the basis of human principals. Speculators of all areas will agree with the categorized miracles violating natural law. However, it all depends on opinion. If a speculator who believed in this violation had an instance where a loved one is in critical condition and the chances of their beating heart lasting for years to come was on the line, they would hope or pray for something to change, and somehow the doctors ability to save them would rise above the concern. However, in a harsh reality, that is not always the case. The doctors inform the family there is nothing more they can do. Now all that can be done is wait and be by their side, holding their crippled hand while they lay in the hospital bed helpless. But something does happen, and the monitor connected to their body begins to beep and gives a sense of hope to the loved one holding their hand and those in the room. One of the loved ones in the room happens to be the speculator of miracles to the natural law. He/she wouldn't simply defy the action in front of them, but then begin to question their opinion to the violation. It all depends on life situations that happen to people, those instances make themselves question the reality of such claims. Like most things in this world, it's opinion to ones own life.

  8. Being raised as a catholic and in the light of God had defiantly affected my opinion about his blog. I am aware that there are many religions and many different views about God. Natural law is also looked at in many different views. In my opinion, Gods law is the only law. Miracles happen everyday all over the world. Children are born, families are brought together, people get a job, people graduate school. Miracles don't have to be something big! Miracles can be big and small. Now to discuss natural order. Natural order is something that scientist look at. It is considered to be the natural way of humans and nature. If God created humans and all nature then natural law is his law. Children being born trees being grown, it's all His order. Once when I was little I was in a religion class learning about miracles. One of the stories was about a priest who has dropped the Body of a Christ on the floor behind him and when he had turned around to pick it up it had not hit the floor but stopped and mid air shining and at that moment the priest heard the voice of God. Another miracle was every single instance in which God healed the sick. During His time Jesus healed the sick with him own hands and claimed that it was their faith that had saved them. Now there is the miracle of medicine because Jesus died for our sins. However, faith can still save us. Heaven is the biggest miracle of all and yes I believe. I believe in miracles and that every law is His law. "And sometimes in your eyes I see the beauty in the world", famous lyrics by Coldplay. Sometimes when I hear his part of their song, "Miracles", I imagine God saying it. He created all things and in all things, He saw good. He saw beauty and in that beauty He saw His creation. A true miracle.

  9. "I'm done looking around I finally figured it out
    It's more than metaphysical
You got me up from down, faith has shattered my doubts
I believe in miracles" This quote from the Newsboys describes why I believe in miracles as well. Miracles are not what people normally believe them to be, things that seemed impossible but still happened, rather they are something that we don't deserve but get anyway. Jesus dying on the cross was a miracle because it saved us from our sin and opened the gates of Heaven. Did we deserve such a sacrifice? No, we didn't think so. It's a miracle that God sees as beautiful creation, while we sometimes see ourselves as the complete opposite, and act that way as well. Miracles do happen, basically everyday, but we don't acknowledge that that is what the truly are. For one final example, we don't see going to Mass as a miracle. Sometimes, we even roll our eyes at the thought of it. The truth is, Jesus didn't have to give himself up for you and me but he did. He loved us that much he died to know us in Heaven. That's a miracle.
