Deliberative Rhetoric-Sales Pitch

You are going to take a shot this weekend at deliberative rhetoric. You are going to either persuade the audience to buy your item by offering its advantages, or dissuade them from buying it by detailing its disadvantages.

Here is a list from which to choose

cell phone
in ground swimming pool at your house
a gym membership
a goldfish
Great Dane
a big screen tv
subscription to Netflix
iPad
glitter
a deep fryer
slime supplies
trampoline
a sauna
couch covers
camper
a candy delivery service
a shed for the backyard
sugary cereal

Once an item has been chosen and is argued both ways, it is off the table. Have a good time with this one. 250 word minimum

  1. Persuading customers NOT to buy trampolines:

Thinking about buying a trampoline to boost the fun and entertainment in your family? Think again. The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly discourages kids using backyard or home trampolines because of the high risk for injury. You might say, well what if it has a safety net and pads over the springs? It seems like safety equipment should help, but so far there’s no evidence that it actually does. The net should stop people from falling off the trampoline, however there are many other possible injuries that can occur other than falling off of it. Doctors say they continually see injuries even from trampolines with nets and pads. Other possibilities include a sprained wrist or ankle, or a fracture to an arm or leg. These can easily occur just from a bad landing on the trampoline. They also can collide with each other, attempt flips and somersaults and land on their head or neck, jump onto each other if they are at a young age, or even break bones. Although there are some ways to prevent this, such as having age limits, only allowing one kid at a time, and always being sure to have a grownup present to supervise, the risks are still not worth it. To add to that, trampoline injuries also tend to be more severe than injuries caused by other dangerous activities that people participate in. The Canadian Hospitals Injury Reporters and Prevention Program compared the proportion of injuries caused by various activities that resulted in hospital admission, and found that trampolining ranked second after downhill skiing. 12.4 percent of trampoline injuries led to hospital admissions compared with 12.9 percent of skiing injuries. Although a trampoline can bring joy and excitement to your family, I would advise you to think twice and ask yourself what other activities your children can participate in without risking so much in their growing years.

    1. You did very good on this. I specifically like how you compared the injuries to other things that kids can get hurt doing. That tackled an argument I was thinking of about how getting hurt is basically part of being a kid and having fun outdoors. Very good.

    2. Emily, I found your blog very persuasive. I especially thought that the point you mentioned about trampoline injuries being about as frequent as downhill skiing injuries somewhat shocking. I never would have guessed that. Great job!

  2. Persuading customers NOT to buy sugary cereals-

Cereal is most often the first thing that comes to mind when picturing breakfast. The most popular cereals are the sugary ones such as Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs, or Fruit Loops because they taste better and are generally more appealing. However, consuming these cereals every day is extremely bad for your overall health. For one, these cereals have an astronomical amount of sugar in them. Take Raisin Bran for example. Even though it seems like one of the healthier cereals, it has about 30 grams of sugar per serving when the sugar of the milk is included. Compare this to a snickers bar which has 27 grams of sugar. If you were to eat a bowl of Raisin Bran every day, you would be consuming more sugar than a snickers bar every single morning. On top of this, sugary breakfast cereals contain many synthetic vitamins to make them seem “healthier.” Many of the vitamins get stripped from the grains in the process of producing these cereals. To remedy this, companies add synthetic vitamins back into the cereal. These vitamins aren’t absorbed into the body the same way that natural vitamins are, so the synthetic vitamins are essentially doing nothing whatsoever. In fact, the body actually treats these vitamins as toxins and seeks to eliminate them as soon as they enter it. Sugary breakfast cereals also contain over processed grains. Over processed grains are very bad for the body and difficult to digest. The over processed grains can then spike blood sugar, increasing the risk of diabetes and other blood sugar related diseases. There are so many other alternatives to breakfast cereals out there that do provide complete nourishment such as eggs or oatmeal. If breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, why choose to consume such unhealthy foods?

    1. This is very persuasive in my view. I appreciate the research into the vitamins and the direct comparison to a candy bar. I think that really puts the severity of sugary cereals into perspective. Nice one!

    2. Honestly I would have never guessed that Raisin Bran would contain more sugar in a serving than a snickers bar and it really adds to your argument, but there's obviously going to be more health benefits when eating bran over caramel and chocolate but that's still ridiculous that it contains more sugar than a chocolate bar. I enjoyed reading your blog and I learned something new from it, well done Sophie.

  3. Cell phones are everywhere these days, and there is a good reason for that! Cell phones are people's connection to the world far away. People are never disconnected when they have a cell phone with them. Text messages, email, google, these are the foundation of the current world. Cell phones are a staple of technological innovation, everyone should have one!
However, not all cell phones are created equal. Some are better than others. Specifically, one is better than all the others. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is the best phone that money can buy! It has all of the features that one could want: amazing battery life, fast wireless charging, 6.4 inch Super AMOLED display, 3 adjustable camera lenses, an audio jack, incredible speed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and the best in biometric security! The Note 9 has it all.
Other brands may have lower prices, but they also have significantly lower performance and capabilities. The iPhone, perhaps the biggest competitor, may be good, but the Note 9 simply redefines what it means to be at the top of an industry, while still being hundreds of dollars cheaper than the newest iPhones. The Note 9 has kept the audio jack, which is more than one can say about the iPhone. Nobody wants to pay $100+ for a measly pair of earbuds in order to listen to music with the iPhone.
And a very important feature of any phone these days is how long it can last. The Note 9 has a 4000mAh battery, which is over 1.5 times that of the iPhone XS. Which means that it can last all day without stopping to recharge. And when the battery is dead, it can be charged rapidly with the fast charging capability, and it has the fast charge power brick included in the box!
There are so many more features that come with this phone, but time is finite. To truly get the full effect of this phone, you just have to try it for yourself. This phone is even referred to as the No Compromises. Simply because it has all of the features anyone could want, without sacrificing anything. It is impossible to be disappointed when using this beast of a phone. This phone is an investment in yourself. Buy one, you’re worth it!

    1. I enjoy your ad for the Note 9, but I feel as if you deliberately avoided saying the price of the phone considering it costs $1,000 or roughly $41.66 per month WITHOUT the service of the phone which adds an additional $71 to your monthly bill, which means the monthly price of this phone would be $111.66 per month. I don't think that the average consumer has money like this laying around, much less the cost of repair if they drop it.

      Delete
    2. I can see your point. And yeah it is expensive. But it is still significantly less than some iPhones and for being a phone with everything, it seems that it should be worth it. Also, your numbers for the plan may very well be correct. But I know that personally, my plan does not add nearly $71 per month for the cellular service. I know plans can change a lot but dang, that doesn't seem right to me.

    3. Even though it may not be the case for you Chris this is not the case for everyone and I can provide the source that I got the quote from, "The average individual’s cell phone bill was $71 per month last year, a 31% increase since 2009, according to J.D. Power & Associates" (Brad Tuttle, Time).

  4. Persuading customers NOT to buy a cell phone:

With great power comes great responsibility. An everyday saying that can be applied to just about every situation, but especially cellular phones. Given that the average cost of an iPhone is $687 and the average cost of an android device is $254 you're holding a very expensive piece of technology that anything could go wrong with. Whoops! You dropped your phone, sorry that will be $200 if you're an Apple user or $80 if you're an Android user for a screen replacement (Amit Chowdhry, Forbes)(Sarah Purewal, CNET). Oh wait! You dropped it in water as well? Looks like you need to get a new phone ontop of the $71 service bill per month (Brad Tuttle). Oh no! You connected to public WiFi and signed into your bank account without using a VPN and now they have your banking account and credit card number. That expensive phone you have in your hand could easily rack up your monthly spending on bills especially if you need a replacement screen or phone because you dropped it or even worse you logged on to a public WiFi signal and now someone is spending your hard earned money on themselves all because of your cell phone. Wouldn't it be better just to stick to having a land line considering it only costs $20 to $25 a month and you don't risk leaking crucial private info for anyone to see and use (Quicken)? Overall, owning a cell phone isn't a necessary thing, it's a want and not a need that can lead to you making serious mistakes and paying for it figuratively and literally, just look at all of the private photo and information leaks. Think before you buy because it might just save your pocketbook.

    2. Logan, I think you did a good job on your blog this week. Your numbers check out pretty well, so good job. However, I feel like your argument could still be easily refuted. Some people have busy lives, cell phones are easier for people to communicate with family, and the landscape for communication is rapidly changing. Other than that, great job.

    3. To your first two points, the replacement screen for an iPhone 7 is $70. This is the kit with all the tools needed to replace the screen. Unless you drop a Note 9, Android is comparable. This also assumes that the consumer neglected to buy a phone case. These are exceptionally cheap; $20 can get you a case and screen protector for the Note 9, the most valuable phone on the market. Dropped inn water? Lucky you, your phone is most likely waterproof. The One Plus 6 is a $450 phone and even it has an IP rating of 67 (under a meter of water for 30 minutes). Your comment on banking is much less true for phones than it is computers or even ATM machines. Phones are some of the most secure devices on the market meaning most attackers will target computer browsers and ATM machines. I would trust my phone much more than anything else. Also, a land line to your house doesn't work if you're in an accident on the highway. Overall, your numbers are correct, but you make a lot of assumptions about the consumer that are all true all the time.

      Delete
    4. Bruce the issue with doing a screen replacement on your own is that Apple highly disapproves of third party replacement AND you doing the replacement on your own and if you mess up 1 simple thing they'll know that you voided your warranty. Although Apple seems great on the surface the reality of it is that it's nothing more than a cash grab company that are told to upsell you or give you ridiculous quotes on pricing and I'm sure you can agree. If you do your banking on your phone on a public WiFi signal that is unencrypted then your data will be open to whoever owns that WiFi, that's why you need a VPN. Although my blog might seem otherwise, I actually support technological advancements such as phones because of their mobility and ease of access, I just didn't have access to do pro-phone because Chris already did it so I elected to do the antithesis.

  5. Persuading customers NOT to use saunas-

Thinking about going to take a quick steam in a sauna? Saunas have many health benefits and help people relax, right? Contrary to popular belief, saunas are actually not as good for people’s health as commonly proclaimed. Firstly, saunas are not a clean place. Due to not being clean bacteria tends to grow in saunas. Bacteria tend to thrive in areas that are warm and dry. Saunas have been found to even harbor bacteria such as e. coli and methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus, MRSA. These two strands of deadly bacteria are not curable by antibiotics causing the deaths of about 20,100 people every year. Saunas are also reportedly bad for those who have kidney disease and heart problems. Saunas cause dehydration that raises the blood pressure of a person that can cause a thickening if heart valves and the over stress on the kidneys that can both end up becoming fatal. According to many health professionals including Dr. Beth Vogt MD, former pediatrician nephrologist in Cleveland, Ohio, the use of saunas can cause a worsening of heart and kidney problems. Some medical professionals go so far as to condemn the use of saunas. According to Harvard Medical School, 1.8% of heart attacks developed in a study of 1,631 people in Finnish saunas. Saunas are said to help people relax and have other health benefits. However, what if someone has a preexisting health condition and becomes ill or even dies from entering into a sauna? Is it really better to take that chance and be able to lose a life over a quick steam? Do not go into saunas. They can cause more harm than help.

  7. Goldfish, the most harmless and easy pet to own may actually be a bit more troublesome then what they seem. The aquatic creature is not a good pet to buy for children and there are many reasons why. For example, a typical goldfish may live in a little bowl but since they grow quite large and can easily pollute water, a small bowl is not adequate for the fish. One single goldfish needs at least a twenty gallon tank to live comfortably and healthy. In addition if you want to add to your fish collection, you need to get a bigger tank because each fish you add needs ten more gallons of water to survive. Another reason why a goldfish is not an ideal pet is because the creatures are bred and raised on fish farms that each year pump out about 250 million goldfish. Why would that be such a bad thing? Well because the industry is making money off the fish who are most likely not taken care of properly and may be hosted in over crowded facilities which is extremely unhealthy for them. Cost is also a feature that is a disadvantage to this pet. Buying the correct items to keep your fish occupied and to make the tank as close to its real habitat can rack up the dollars. For example, a live aquarium plant kit costs about $25 which may not seem like much but if the plants die and you have to buy more, the cost will add up. Goldfish are not that great of pets due to their high care and high costs. Perhaps if you are ready to undertake the work and have lots of free time then a goldfish might be a good pet. Although for the rest of families with young kids who want the pet, the goldfish is just not the right answer due to their demanding needs.

  8. Persuading customers to get an in ground swimming pool at your house

With summer just around the corner, it is time for everyone to finally enjoy some relaxation time. What better way to escape stressfulness endured all year than to enjoy the azure skies and radiant sun at the poolside. There are many positive reasons to build an in ground pool which can improve any person’s happiness, health, and family. For example, having a private pool creates the perfect “staycation”, especially for families. Since the event of 9/11 in 2001, people have been traveling less and spending more time at home. Having a pool at home lets people escape the crowds and bustle of community pools. Not only do pools provide a personal staycation, they provide many other benefits such as improved family time, fitness, stress relief, and home improvement value. In ground pools have specific benefits compared to above ground pools. In ground pools have specific home improvement values such as aesthetic benefits. Both in ground and above ground pools certainly can leverage landscape appeals. However, most home buyers prefer in ground pools because they believe they it creates a more beautiful outdoor space. For people selling their houses that have an in ground pool, they can sell for an additional $25,000 to even $40,000. Additionally, building an in ground pool allows customers to choose their own custom benefits. They can shaped to a buyers personal style, yard, and lifestyle. In ground pools also allow for much more durability. Yes, obviously, these pools are underground making them more durable against storms and several other natural phenomenons. In ground pools have many benefits that should not go unrecognized.

  10. To NOT get an iPad:

Apple may have started the luxurious and functional mobile device market, but it most definitely not lead it. Apple’s main competitor is Microsoft. Microsoft’s solution for a tablet is their Surface lineup and Apple’s is their 12.9” iPad Pro. The Surface Pro is a 12.3” multi-touch display device with up to 1TB of storage, 16GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Apple offers up to 1TB of storage, 4GB of RAM (6 on the 1TB unit) and an A12X Bionic chip. The lowest model of the Surface Pro is $100 less than the lowest iPad Pro, but offers twice the storage and twice the RAM. Both of these are significant, especially RAM because it has a massive impact on how fast programs load. The Surface Pro is the best bang for your buck at all price points.

The best selling point of the Surface Pro, and the worst of the iPad Pro, is the operating system. The Surface offers a full blown Windows experience and all the freedom that comes with it. Apple, on the other hand, offers their OS, iOS 12.1. While this OS is functional and smooth, it is extremely locked down, offering little or no customization. For power users (such as myself) this is a no-go, but for many, it offers simplicity and ease of access. The true decision maker is what the consumer will use the device for. Many will only need the iPad, but for anyone who wants to have just a little bit more control, or the options offers with Windows, the Surface Pro is the way to go, especially for the price.

  11. Persuading someone to buy a deep fryer.

What can you lose by purchasing a deep fryer? There is so many things to fry, as long as your imagination allows for it, and as long as your willing to put in the effort to do so. There is an endless possibility of things to fry, such as fish, chicken, vegetables, Oreos, mozzarella sticks, fries, pork, or just about any kind of food there is. Aside from the endless possibilities of things to cook in a deep fryer, there are a few more benefits that could easily be pointed out. The speed of cooking is increased immensely due to the basic laws of thermodynamics that states that heat transfer between a hot liquid and solid food occurs much quicker than it does from heated air to a solid food. The taste of the food is also much more extravagant because the surrounding fats and oils do a better job at keeping in the flavor during deep fry cooking rather than cooking with a stove or an oven. Along with these benefits, food is also very much more tender than it would be with any other method of cooking. If something is over cooked in an oven or on a stove, it tends to dry out and this is disappointing, probably because you are looking forward to a tasty meal. With a deep fryer, there is no chance that your food will over cook, if you happen to keep some kind of food in the deep fryer for too long, it will still retain its moisture and you can be sure to have a moist, tender meal.

  12. Convincing people to NOT get a gym membership

With the new year just beginning, many people are making resolutions to go to the gym more often and to get healthier. With that being said, the amount of new gym memberships skyrockets in the early months of the year. But, is it really that important to have a membership to a gym if throughout the year people gradually stop going? No. In a study in 2012, most people who purchase a gym membership after January first do not make it past May. And, in 2011, only about half the gym members surveyed visited the gym more than 100 times. The amount of money that people waste yearly is quite large because the average cost of a monthly membership is about $41. Why would one want to pay that much money when some of our local gyms allow you to pay $2-$5 daily if you only go every so often. Another reason gym memberships are not necessary is the option of the weight rooms at the high schools. These weight rooms have most of the same equipment that the gyms do, and are most of the time much cleaner. There is also no cost involved with the weight rooms at school, and can be easily accessed after school or after a practice. It is also fairly easy to get a good work out in at home. Finding an open space and doing some basic workouts or going on a run in town or in your neighborhood are also great options. A gym membership is not necessary for one to get healthy, and the cost is much less with the other options.

  14. Persuading someone to NOT buy a subscription to Netflix

Everyone is given twenty- four hours in a day. How do you spend yours? Many Netflix users find themselves sitting inside binge watching tv series and movies. This takes time out of their day and less gets done. A Netflix subscription is not a subscription to endless movies and tv shows but a subscription to throwing time away.
Netflix does have good, education movies and shows, but there is also movies filled with violence, sex, and bad language. When you waste your day watching these types of movies you can begin to see these actions as common and change your daily actions to match those that producers and actors have created.
The biggest issue with a Netflix subscription is the amount of time that it waste. According to CNBC study, Netflix users combine for a total of 140 million hours of content per day. At the time of the study Netflix had 117.58 million subscriptions. This means that every Netflix users waste almost an hour a day in front of a screen watch tv. Imagine all the other things you could get done in that hour. You could go to gym and loose those few pounds you keep talking about; catch up on homework; or hang out with friends, mom and dad, or grandma and grandpa. All of these things can be done while you would normally be sitting in the recliner binging on your favorite tv series.
Why should you pay some to have them throw your time away? A subscription to Netflix is just a subscription to waste your time. You waste your day filling your brain with tv reality violence, sex, and poor language. Watching a movie use to be something that someone did when nothing else was going on, but now it replaces the activities that need to be done.

  15. Persuading someone to buy a Great Dane:

Josh Billings once said, “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” If you have a dog, you know this is true. If you don’t have a dog, you should seriously consider getting one, specifically a Great Dane. Great Danes are often seen as intimidating due to their size but they are total sweethearts that love to relax with their owner. While Great Danes do love to run around it does not take long for them to calm down. Most of the time they can be found laying down in a comfortable place. Unlike most people think, they are huge family dogs. Most Great Danes tend to have a naturally gentle, nonaggressive personality which makes them great around children. They are also very goofy dogs so if you are an owner that loves to laugh, this is definitely a dog you should get. Aside from their goofiness, they are also extremely intelligent. Their high intelligence makes them great hunting dogs as well. Great Danes were originally used for boar and deer hunting and they can track any prey down with ease. Due to their long legs they also make a great running partner. At the end of the day, no dog will be more loyal than a Great Dane. They tend to get very protective over their families and are often the chosen breed for a guard dog. Even though most Great Danes are almost 3 feet tall and roughly 200 pounds they love to pretend they’re a lap dog. One of their favorite things is cuddling up to their owner after a long day seeking affection. A great dane is a dog that will never leave your side and love you unconditionally. They will always be there for you and be a beacon of light in your life.

  16. Persuading people to get a camper :

Camping is a favorite pastime of many Americans. Though traditional camping holds great experience, the upgraded camping equipment of today pulls many people into the great life of camping. A camper is an essential to camping comfortably, safely, and easily. People from all over the country consider campers to be a staple to their lives, and their stories make other Americans question why have they have not jumped on board.
Bryanna Royal, mother of four young children and a dog, developed such a fondness for traveling in her camper that she and her family travel most of the year in their camper. She noted her favorite things about her camper in an article on “RVing Planet.” She noted that she enjoys the flexibility to stop where she wants when traveling, and the great storage and ability to travel with a number of items for her family so that they can travel comfortably. She noted that although she travels often in her camper, her family opted for a simple style camper. 1. I love how we started off with the same idea about how camping is an American pastime that has been favorited for centuries, and we both used other people as a reference. In your second paragraph you say the word "noted" a lot but I'm sure that was just a mistake out of habit. This was really good otherwise!

  17. Camping, it is an all-American tradition that has been around for centuries. There is something that lures people in about campfires, s’mores, yard games, and the great outdoors. However, there is a major difference between taking a drive down to the same cozy camp every year and hauling a 6,000 pound hunk of metal to various locations in the hopes of getting a good spot. It is encouraged that people refrain from buying a camper and here’s why:
The average American makes about $56,000 a year, and this is before the amount for taxes, bills, groceries, and other miscellaneous expenses get taken out. That being said, the average cost for a nice camper is around $200,000, and this is not taking into consideration the cost of parking it, electricity, sewage, and much more. Everyone can agree that this $200,000 can be used for so much more like a down payment on a house, college loans, credit card bills, car payments, and retirement funds.
Still not convinced? Lee Taylor, a camp owner for 24 years and counting, swears that owning a legitimate camp was the best thing that he has ever done. Despite bringing him closer to his family and creating memories that will last a lifetime, he believes that camp has many benefits that a camper could never encompass. Lee stated, “Having a camp means that you always have somewhere to go when you want to get away from everyday life and you know that when you get down there you have neighbors who become more like family than friends.” He compared it to a second home and mentioned that you will never get that feeling with a camper. Some other assets he referred to were the simplicity of being able to leave items such as food, drinks, clothes, etc. down at camp and not having to constantly drag them back and forth from a house to a camper.
In addition, if one truly wishes to visit different parks and campgrounds there are other options than flat-out purchasing a camper. Many places have cabins or rooms that people can rent out for a weekend for a much cheaper price than the $200,000 a camper allots. Also, tents are yet, another alternative way of camping on-the-go.
Overall, buying a camper seems to be a waste of money because there are other options out there that are either less expensive or much more convenient.

  18. Convincing people not to buy glitter.

Glitter, what a wonderful and beautiful gift, not. Glitter is one of the worst things you can buy. I am not just saying this because it gets everywhere and never seems to come off of anything. I’m am saying it because glitter is one of the worlds worse pollutants. Glitter is small pieces of shinny plastic that are not bio degradable. Bad news for your oceans Glitter is entering the food chain and harming marine life. Glitter should be discontinued as a product. Eight trillion micro beads enter water daily and because they do bio degrade they will be in our oceans or hundreds of years to follow. On top of the environmental factors glitter is not a fashion statement men like. It is always something they have to clean out of their cars or the floors following their significant other after special nights out. The glitter is also a terrible thing for your kids to use during arts and crafts in the early days of school. It is a choking hazard and an absolute mess. The art teacher can not possibly keep track of 20 kids at one time trying to make sure all the kids don’t drink the glitter. People should not buy glitter. When they do they fuel the fire. The fire is a fire that is spreading rapidly and destroying our plant. Don’t stop the shin of the world because you want to put a shin in your hair. Glitter should not be used to brighten up your life

  21. By purchasing an iPad, one can be opened up to a whole new world that they were not exposed to beforehand. Because of all the benefits that can be gained through buying an iPad, it should not only be a device used for fun, but it should be a necessity for anyone who wants to improve their lifestyle.
In 2010, one of the most life changing devices was placed on the market for sale. Since its release, the iPad has taken the roles of important everyday aspects of life. An iPad can be used anywhere nowadays. It is used for making transactions in many stores, for teaching in schools, and for communication purposes in space. iPads have become a part of everyday life, and not having an iPad can seriously limit the productivity of an individual.
iPads are not limited to any one person with any one profession. They can be used by doctors, artists, business, children, or any other person imaginable. What can an iPad do? It can serve a multitude of purposes that range from work, to leisure, to creativity. It is the Duct Tape of technology. The wide range of purposes that an iPad can serve would make it a much easier to ask the question, “What can’t an iPad do?”
Purchasing an iPad is one of the easiest decisions that can be made in the modern world. With all of its functions that can serve such a wide range of people, it would be a crime to oneself not to buy an iPad.

  22. To Get a couch cover

Couch covers can be a great accessory to add to your house. Couch covers have many great uses. One great use is for dog owners. Most dogs shed a lot and get hair all over your house. Having hair on couch doesn’t look good and just makes your house more messy. Couch covers will also protect your couch, when dogs jump on your couch it will often scratch the surface or rip it. Having a cover will minimize the damage done by your pet. Also it is a good idea to have one if you have kids. Kids are often messy and will spill there cups and and food on the couch. Having a protective cover will reduce this damage. When the cover gets all dirty and messy, you can take it off and wash it. If it is too beat up you can buy another one for around 40 dollars, which is much better than a 250 dollar couch. Also if you want to change the theme of a room you can buy a new cover to go along with the theme rather than buying a new couch. Buying a cover will increase the longevity of the couch, and will end up saving you money. When you decide to get a new couch the old one will be in much better shape because it was protected, and therefore you will be able to get more out of it. Overall, adding a couch cover to your couch would be a good idea.

  25. Persuading customers to buy trampolines.

Trampolines are known to be a very fun as well as entertaining item for people from a wide variety of ages. It gives the feel as if one is walking on the moon or has a true “bounce in their step.” For kids, it can be used as an imaginative way to feel as if they are flying, and really get their creative juices in their minds flowing to boost their imaginations. When kids see a trampoline in a yard, a smile on their face most likely follows their reaction of the scene. Also, trampolines make great sources of entertainment for parties and hanging out with friends.
Nowadays, kids are caught up with their gaming consoles and electronic devices. In fact, the average American child spends between five and eight hours every single day in front of a digital screen of some sort. Trampolines are a fun way to get the kids excited to go outside and enjoy the fresh air around them. It is also a way to exercise as well. Jumping high in the air uses the leg muscles to push off from the trampoline to help launch the user into the air. Humans should aim for at least sixty minutes of exercise each day. Everyone has heard the phrase “times flies when you’re having fun.” Well with trampolines, those sixty minutes will feel like a mere five minutes due to all the fun that can be had on this piece of unique equipment.
Trampolines are a wonderful investment which can be used for both entertainment as well as exercising purposes.

  26. Persuading people to buy a shed for the backyard.

Most homeowners have too many appliances that will not fit in a standard one-stall or two-stall garage. The garage is supposed to hold the vehicles that the couple own, not outdoor appliances such as a lawnmower, chainsaw, or snowplow. Also, the sight of these appliances just laying around outside would be an eyesore. Homeowners should purchase or build a shed in their backyard to store their outdoor supplies.
Most men have tools such as screws, screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, etc. The tools could be overflowing out of a beaten, old toolbox. Instead of this toolbox, the tools can be in a shed and organized based off of size. A shed helps with organization of tools and makes these appliances easily accessible.
Large outdoor appliances such as lawnmowers, four wheelers, tractors, or snowplows will not fit in a garage while a car is inside. As a result, these machines are left outside to take blows from the harsh weather. This causes the machines to rust or break easier than before. If they were to be stored in a shed, they could last longer and be more durable. Plus, if these appliances were outside the house surrounding the garage, it would be an eyesore for neighbors or people just driving by. This will lead to a bad impression on the homeowners, people will think that this couple is sloppy, lazy, and unorganized. The worst thing for homeowners to do is to leave a bad impression of themselves towards their neighbors whom they will be living next to for years to come. Homeowners should invest in a shed because it will help with organization of tools and prolong the life of outdoor appliances.

  27. Persuading people not to buy a Great Dane:

We all love dogs right? Man's greatest companion has been with us for as long as we can remember. We created breeds, such a a bulldog, German Shepard, and the famous Golden Retriever. But one type of dog that is more trouble that good is a Great Dane.
Great Danes can be loyal companions like the dogs mentioned above, but they can be a bigger problem than first thought. First off, these dogs are giant. They are usually taller than a dining room table. They will clean the table of any unattended food quicker than you can say "stop!". Also because fo their size, they can be prone to some injuries. Hip and back injuries are common among all dogs, but are quite prevalent with this type of breed. And surgery on a dog isn't cheap either, especially with a dog of that size, you'll need a replacement the size of a human replacement, making cost skyrocket into the air. They can be a hassle to clean also. Smaller dogs like Terriers and Dauchsund's can be washed easy and their coats can be taken car of easily, with not much coat to brush and maintain. Great Danes though, you will need to take to a groomer or wash in a bathtub to make them clean. And don't mention the coats, there's so much coat their you'll waste an entire day trying to clean those dogs completely. And if you take them to a groomer as mentioned before, well cost will be big again. Anithe rbig problem is training to. If these dogs aren't well trained and can't keep their heads, they can become dangerous because of their size if they go after a person, and don't get me started if they go after a child. Please if your looking for a dog, by all means get one, but don't get a costly dog such as a Great Dane.

    1. We literally posted these at the same time. Well, I agree with your points, just as I mentioned in mine! You did a great job of persuading someone to not buy a Great Dane.

  28. Dogs are known to be man’s best friend, but they won’t be a best friend for long once the dog is bigger than man. For starters, Great Danes are outrageously ginormous. Of course, all dogs are tiny as puppies and owners can carry them around, but not much later will that dog be able to carry you around. The average height of a Great Dane is round 90 centimeters, 180 centimeters standing, and usually weigh around 120 pounds! That is the size of a small adult! Due to their enormous size, they are going to need food and lots of it. This would not be ideal for someone who is not able to accommodate for the Great Danes expensive lifestyle. A 50 pound bag of dog food will typically last about 3 weeks for adult dogs. But, Great Danes aren’t your average dog, so they will need about $100 worth of dog food each month! These dogs can develop a variety of health problems that go hand-in-hand with their giant size. They typically live 6 to 8 years, as they generally develop joint problems, experience bone pain, and bloat. That means a higher vet bill for the owner, and probably a shorter lifespan than other dogs. Think about it, when it is time to go on a road trip or take the plane... Most hotels, restaurants, malls.. won’t have them, so they need a temporary home while you are away. Secondly, they drool, a lot! Your clothes are stained in a matter of minutes, and if they lick your arms, you are good to go wash as well. Most Great Danes think of themselves as little lap dogs too. Once you cannot carry them, they will come and sit on you without realizing how big they are. Also, smaller dogs will get scared away and not want to play since the dog is so large. Great Danes can also develop separation anxiety. They are not able to stay alone at home or they will literally destroy everything in their reach, and that is more than the normal dog. Dogs are expensive and require a lot of work, that’s just an average size dog. Giant breeds aren’t for everyone and are just as intimidating as they look.
